Let's do an AMA!

Let's do an AMA!

Mar 13, 2023

Hey, all - let's do something different this week.

Have you heard of AMAs?

Otherwise known as Ask Me Anything?

Today, I want to try it. Reply with any question - respectfully, of course.

Do you have a question about a book?

A story question?

Background?

You can ask questions about me, too.

In case you're new - or forgot why you're here - I'm Carla Krae, 45, with a tech guy and 5 cats, all rescues. I write contemporary romance, starting with Jacob and Beth and his rockstar ambitions. I first published in 2011.

I did an interview forever ago and it's been posted on my About page on my website:

What is your writing process?
I’ll get an idea and once the scene is showing up in my head, I’ll start writing it down. Sometimes that’s where the book starts, sometimes not. And then I go from there.

Do you have any odd writing habits?
I don’t think so.

What book do you wish you could have written?
A bestseller, lol.

How important are names to you in your books? Do you choose the names based on liking the way it sounds or the meaning?
Names are fairly important. Usually main characters come to me with their name attached. For villains, I’ll look up names by meaning to find one that fits their personality/role.

Have you always liked to write?
No! Just the thought of it brought a complete mental block for school. First thing that helped was starting to journal at age 14. Then I took Creative Writing my senior year as a companion to Modern Lit, and my CW teacher asked us to just do a page using a list of vocabulary words – and that was my entry into telling a point of view. The prompts she used for writing in that class is the sole reason I thought I could write my first story years later.

What writing advice do you have for other aspiring authors?
Read a lot, and start with something you know, something you’re passionate about, because writing is hard, and you’ll never finish your first story without passion for it.

If you didn’t like writing books, what would you do for a living?
Singing. It’s what I trained for growing up.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Seat of the pants, baby. Only way I can do it.

Is there a certain type of scene that’s harder for you to write than others? Love? Action? Racy?
Action! I’m not sure I could ever do an exciting car chase.

Do you write naked?
Gracious, no! No one wants to see that.

Have you ever been in trouble with the law?
Only a speeding ticket.

Have you ever gotten into a fight?
Physical fight? No.

Do you drink? Smoke? What’s your vice?
No drinking or smoking. My vice….probably procrastination. It’s too easy to watch one more TV show or browse a little longer online.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?
Teleportation.

What secret talents do you have?
My memory is kinda freaky good. If we meet and have a little chat, I’ll remember practically every detail. I’ve surprised people.

Where is one place you want to visit that you haven’t been before?
The UK.

If you were an animal, what would you be and why?
A dolphin. Or a pampered house cat.

Do you have any scars? What are they from?
Definitely. Some are from the playground, some are cooking scars, a few are left over from chicken pox when I was 5.

Send me your thoughts and I'll post the replies here next week! Cool?

Let's chat,

Carla
