Dx'd With Autism at 40

Dx'd With Autism at 40

Jan 08, 2023

I was diagnosed with autism at 40. Now everything makes sense to me.

Being autistic without a diagnosis, having ADHD undiagnosed and living with post-traumatic stress disorder without knowing were things I was used to. I was DX with lifelong complex PTSD in 2016, there from early childhood but not given a name until I was 34. Then came my ADHD diagnosis less than a year ago. And this year, in a process that began with my oldest child's autism diagnosis, I was DX'd with autism myself.

Learning that I'm autistic on the cusp of turning 40 was a lot — still is. More so, though, it makes sense of a lot.

There's a lot more to the article. It has a paywall, but you can read a few stories for free. Not important, but the C-PTSD part is confusing. "I was DX with lifelong complex PTSD in 2016, there from early childhood but not given a name until I was 34." It's been a long day, but I rested more than I usually do on a Saturday, but I'm missing what DX she had as a kid. C-PTSD?

If you don't hate inspirational porn, here is an article on Austin, who is autistic. He started a business during the pandemic (like me, I started in January 2020, before COVID was in the United States).

Most of the stories on Inside Edition aren't positive. It might be 50/50. To clarify, I don't think stories about autism need to be positive. I was going to link to all their stories about autistic people; some are triggering, so I didn't want to link to all their articles.

I'm adding a grocery and meal planner in the shop. (Pic below) I had something else in mind, but I can't find it on the computer! I'll post it when I find it. This money would go to me buying an air conditioner. I have one in my bedroom because I need my sleep. I don't have one for the office, and now I'm in there more and later when it'll be really hot (I'm on the humid east coast of The United States).

I am going to try to buy it in April before it gets too hot. Maybe the price will be a few dollars lower than buying in June or July. Why do I always live in places with no AC? The only places I've lived in with air conditioners are apartments. Due to sensory issues, I can't live in an apartment. I have tried several times.

Okay, back to work. I took a 3-hour break. I think that's enough.
