Other People's Memoirs

Reading Bluewater Walkabout: Into Africa: Finding Healing Through Travel by Tina Dreffin. It reminds me not to talk about every little thing. For example, I don't care about her sister's wedding. What does that have to do with finding healing through travel?

I'm not going to any characters in my book. Sure, I will mention my boss or a coworker, but only one may have a name. And it's not my whole life story. I may love this book, but now I get what people mean when they say your memoir doesn't have to include everything.

My book would be so dull if I documented my whole life. My life is a record on repeat. Meet person. The person thinks I'm weird. Person gossips with their friends. They make fun of me. Repeat.

Just kidding. I wish that were my only issue.

And I'm also neurodivergent. So the author doesn't need to set the stage. Just tell me the point. I don't care about the details.

This may be why many people will hate my book. I don't set the stage and say stuff that doesn't have a specific point. I use too many words in sentences - YES. That's why I need an editor. But I'm not going to stray too much from the point.
