6 Poems from ‘I’ve just had a baby’

6 Poems from ‘I’ve just had a baby’

Apr 08, 2021

Today I wanted to share with you some of the poems from my book ‘I’ve just had a baby…’ a poetry book close to my heart. It is a collection of poems that express my experiences in becoming a mother. The ups, downs and delights. I hope you enjoy.

Marvellous Women

A women’s body is a marvel

A true miracle worker

Growing life within it

Then bringing that life

Into the world

An unbearable pain

But someone must do it

We women are a marvel

We are the victors in this game.

Flutters

Can you feel the fluttering

That little tingling feeling

Deep within your belly

The first signs of life

Growing inside

As the days go on

The flutters grow stronger

Until it’s a full on kick

To the bladder.

Nine Months

Month one

A tiny seed within me

Month two

A raspberry so small and sweet

Month three

A plum I could nestle in one hand

Month four

An avocado starting to take shape

Month five

A banana growing very quickly

Month six

A cantaloupe with a real bump too

Month seven

As an aubergine you look so lifelike

Month eight

A pineapple force to be reckoned with

Month nine

A bloody watermelon, pass the epidural

I’ve just had a baby…

I’ve just had a baby…

My life has turned upside down,

I’ve just had a baby…

Forgive me if I don’t wear a ball gown.

I’ve just had a baby…

My body and hormones are everywhere,

I’ve just had a baby…

Ignore the spew on the clothes I wear.

I’ve just had a baby…

I need time to repair and recover,

I’ve just had a baby…

I’ve just become a mother.

Change

Overnight a woman

becomes fearless.

She has more to protect

than just herself.

The fears are pushed

deep down inside.

So that the fire

can burn on the surface.

Igniting light, love and protection

around her new born child.

I Will

I will teach you

to love the way you should be loved

I will teach you

the respect that any human deserves

I will teach you compassion

because the world needs more of it

I will teach you to be brave

in the face of adversity

I will teach you empathy

so that you can be mindful

Above all I will teach you to always be yourself

Because you should be loved and cherished for who you are.
