Day 1: Camp Nano April 2024

Day 1: Camp Nano April 2024

Apr 23, 2024

Hey guys,

Today is Day 1 of Camp Nanowrimo for April 2024.

If you’re unfamiliar, Camp Nanowrimo is a 30-day writing challenge. But unlike the annual Nanowrimo event in November - in which the challenge is to write the first draft of a 50,000-word novel - the goal for Camp can be whatever you choose.

My goal for April Camp Nano 2024 is simply to write 1,000 words every day (or to average 1,000 words/day over 30 days). Since I am not a book author or fiction writer, my Nanowrimo goals are always different. I’m a blogger and freelance writer, so my writing goals focus more on articles rather than books.

HubPages

The first site I’ll be writing content for is HubPages, a network of niche sites that shares ad revenue with contributors. I’ve been writing for HubPages on and off since 2012 and have actually earned hundreds of dollars from my articles there.

After taking many hits over the years and losing search traffic from Google, I’m only earning a few dollars a month there now. In total, I still have 23 articles across their network of niche sites, with some of them still on the old, original site - HubPages.com.

It’ll be nice to get several more articles (aka Hubs) on there and get that passive income back up to a decent amount.

Textbroker

I also have been writing articles for clients on Textbroker since 2012. Textbroker is a popular content mill that brings together freelance writers and clients who want content for their websites. The pay is decent, as far as content mills go. Which is to say, not great. But hey - I write articles and get paid. That’s pretty cool.

In total, I’ve written just over 1,000 articles for Textbroker over the years and have made several thousand dollars there. Work has been pretty sparse the past year or so with the latest advancements in AI. So idk how long that gig will last. But I like the work, so I’ll keep grinding out some articles for Textbroker whenever I can get them.

Buy Me a Coffee

The last place I’ll be writing for during Camp Nano this month is BuyMeACoffee.com, a website and app that allows your readers, followers and fans to donate a few bucks to you. It’s like Patreon. In fact, I might end up publishing this little article on there once I’m done typing it up.

I joined BMC a few years ago but never really did anything with it. I did make like 15 bucks or so when my friend made a donation. And yes, I actually did use that money to buy coffee lol.

Anyway, I suppose I’ll dust off my BMC account and start blogging on there during this Camp Nano challenge, since I had to shut down my blog a few months ago due to lack of money for web hosting.

So yeah, as I type this, I’m thinking that I may do a daily update on BMC throughout this 30-day writing challenge. Maybe somebody will stumble across it and read a few posts. At the least, it’ll be a good way to get some writing practice, since I’m a little rusty. And it’ll count toward my daily goal of writing 1,000 words a day for Camp.

Okay, so that’s it for Day 1.

Stop by tomorrow for Day 2 and maybe give me a follow on here to get updates whenever I write a new blog post.

Ok yeah. Tomorrow, then.

-Chris
