A Daily Writing Practice

A Daily Writing Practice

Jun 24, 2022

I’m terrible at writing everyday. I do most of the time but some days, I just can’t get my mind to focus on the task at hand. I suppose I put too much pressure on myself. I’m a perfectionist in many ways, so, I tend to edit as I write sometimes. I used to delete and rework sentences as I tackled my rough draft. I’ve come to notice and take note nowadays opposed to changing it. The rough draft is going to change anyway. I might as well make it ugly.

In terms of ugly, I told myself that to get better at the craft of writing, I must do it daily. It doesn’t have to be long, it can be all of six words; it just has to tell a story. These are meant to be rough and unshaped. I like to do what they call Tab writing; a blank slate. I start with one thought and let it flow through my pen (or keys as I type). I even made up a flash fiction musical story about a ham sandwich once due to Tab writing. I might share it if I can find it.

I want you to take in the stories and leave comments or kind, helpful critiques. If you like it enough you can support ya girl by buying me a book or two (I’ll soon have membership options). You can even share it with someone who might relate to the topic at hand or enjoy writing. This is my space to be a writer; to talk my ish so to speak about whatever I want. I will say, the stories will be all fiction. They will be numbered and aptly titled so y’all will know what’s up.

This daily practice will be from July 1st to December 31st. I will most likely continue after that date but I want to assess later on.

Next week, I’ll break down what is flash fiction and its sub-genres.

Until next time,
