Brazen

Feb 13, 2022

I love movies based on books. It is my favorite past time to watch a movie and decide if the books are worth checking out. The other day, the grandparents were watching my son, Maximus, so I decided to sit down to a movie.

As I was thinking about what platform to check out, I was on the fence if I would find anything. I was tired and cold from being at a wedding that happened to be outside in 35 degree weather. It was beautiful and funny but boy was it chilly. Anywho, I clicked on Netflix. One of the first couple of movies I saw was Brazen with Alyssa Milano. I had passed by it a few times before but this time, I let a snippet play. It didn’t look terrible and then I saw it was a mystery that was based on a book. Being the mystery writer that I am, I had to check it out.

This movie was a whole mess. The acting was fine but some of the writing was questionable. So, here is the background:

A bestselling mystery/thriller writer, Grace, goes back to her hometown because her sister needs her (the sister is a former drug addict; addicted to pills. She’s going for custody of her son from her high powered attorney ex-husband so she needs all the support she can get.) The sister is a teacher and a dominatrix, so y’all know there is about to be trouble. The next door neighbor to the sisters is none other than a D.C. homicide detective who just solved a major case and gets a week off of work. While the sister is at work, Grace goes to meet the neighbor, good looking D.C. detective. He notices she is the bestselling author and she signs his book and asks to pick his brain since she did a quick Google search to find out who he was.

They go out on a date, (because let’s be honest, that was a smooth pickup line from our girl Grace) while the sister is at home getting ready to cook. She gets a call about a client and goes to her dominatrix room to do her thing. Grace and D.C. detective kiss of course and that’s how their relationship begins. Grace is so excited to tell her sister about this great date when she finds her sister dead.

In true movie mystery fashion, Grace wants to help solve the case but the detective isn’t here for it. Grace convinces the Captain to let her consult on the case, which makes the detective upset.

I’m just going to leave it there because to be honest, I’m tired of explaining the movie. One thing I will say, they had a ridiculous line in the movie where they are having sex for the first time and the detective stops and says, “one time won’t be enough.” Y’all, I could not stop laughing. So extra.

Anywho, if you have nothing to do and want something to watch, check out this movie. I want more people to kiki with about it.

Until next time,
