My #1 Tactic to Book Local Gigs

My #1 Tactic to Book Local Gigs

Mar 03, 2022

In my recent post, 7 Ways to Find Local Gigs I share the best tactics to get consistent local gigs that have worked well for me. I actually stumbled across a few of these tactics while moonlighting as a freelance digital marketer and public relations strategist. For example, although there are a lot of resources available to learn about SEO, most musicians completely ignore this wildly effective strategy to attract paying clients. Check out #6 on the list.

But, what I'd also like to add is that I started sending out these postcards to various types of venues as well to expand my outreach.

I created different postcards for each type of venue such as apartment communities, wineries, museums, event rental facilities, etc. The postcards are a great way to start the conversation if you haven't reached out before. But they should be followed up with an email (or phone call) in order to solidify the connection.

What's the #1 Strategy to get local gigs?

Emailing, Emailing, Emailing...

The email is where the action really takes place as I explain in the members-only section of the post. That's where I share my personal email template that I use to reach out to folks. I've gotten so many gig opportunities from this! You'd be amazed what cold-calling (or emailing in this case) can do.

I will admit, I did get into a 'spirited' discussion with someone due to me executing this strategy like nobody's business! I go into detail about that in the members-only section as well. You never know what responses you're going to get sometimes. In hindsight, I probably should have handled things differently. But my past self was in a different place and I'm not going to shoot her for it.
