The SSG club canceled Choi Jung from the first division entry ahead of the Kiwoom Heroes match at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on the 13th.
An SSG club official said, "In the match against the KIA Tigers on the 10th, I suffered pain while running on the left thigh," adding, "I need to rest for about a week."
With this, Choi Jeong finished the regular season with a batting average of .297 140 hits, 29 home runs, 87 RBIs, and an OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) of .936.
Choi was closely trailing Noh Si-hwan (Hanwha, 31), the home run leader, with 29 home runs. While Noh Si-hwan participated in the Hangzhou Asian Games, Choi Jung added a home run to narrow the gap.
However, as Choi Jung was unable to play the rest of the season, Noh Si-hwan's first home run king was virtually confirmed. Currently, Chae Eun-sung, a teammate of Hanwha, has 23 home runs in the third place. Hanwha has only three games left in the regular season, so it is virtually impossible to overtake Noh Si-hwan.
