Family Lane

Side A

We would gather up at home when it’s our parents’ pay day,

To enjoy the hot ‘siopao’ and cold ice cream, a perfect contrast on a warm weekday.

Like my grandpa’s black and white TV upstairs where we would watch MTV.

The walls filled up with posters—BSB, Spice Girls, Hanson; the stars from the 90s to early 2000s.

Oh the joys of listening to music through cassette players and tapes!

No wonder why at 2nd grade, I was already singin’ to Meredith Brook’s B*tch, Alanis including some of my sister’s favorites.

And we’d even pass off as twins, with those matching turbans and hair ties.

Side B

Trips to the beach, family board games, yoyos, and rainbow springs.

As kids, all 4 of us often dress up in coordinates, sporting Baby G’s—mine was baby pink.

Disney characters printed on our shirts—Pluto, Minnie, Mickey, Donald or Daisy.

We wore baggy pants like we're the cool kids.

We didn't come from a rich family but ’twas built with love, prayer, and rooted in faith.

A happy, humble home with a 3-room tiny apartment just right to support the family’s needs.

We didn't have much but it was enough.

It's the late 90s plus a bunch of great memories.

Times are simple. Life is good.
