Fighting Covid-19 with two children

Dec 23, 2020

Hey guys,

I'm opting to write this post in English since I've had a lot of recent supporters being non-danish speakers.

On Thursday, December 17 I woke up with total loss of smell. I had already spent the past day inside due to pending snow storm and I kind of knew what loss of smell meant. Early morning on December 18, I took my children to the local City MD to get tested. Not going to go into details of how long the line was, and the ridiculous wait because the point is:

I tested positive for Covid-19. My son had both a rapid and a PCR test done, both came back negative.

But what do you do ... you go home, you quarantine. You deal with your symptoms.

It hasn't even been a full week yet but I feel like I've been inside for weeks. I have various symptoms some mild, others very painful. Last night I considered calling 911 due to serious leg pain and having read about blood clots.

But my children ... I'm their caregiver and anyone who'd offer to help would have to quarantine 14 days.

The City's contact tracers have given me December 27, as the date I'm "allowed" back out ... but because the symptoms and outbreak of Covid-19 can linger to the people having been exposed they need to quarantine longer. In my children's case - until January 3.

They seem OK. My son's stuffy nose and my baby daughter is teething which is why she's extra fussy these days. Or maybe just going stir crazy like her mom. I miss the outside.

I feel blessed though ... My tribe of brothers and sisters, followers and strangers have come together and showed me an outpouring amount of ENCOURAGEMENT both from their genuine care for me, Scriptural food, own personal experience fighting and surviving Covid. Then comes the financial support! I lost out of a lot of income this year due to the pandemic in general, but I had found a way to make it a little easier by providing virtual tours. Sadly, I can not offer them when I have to quarantine at home with two kids. So to see people's generosity is so good! I was able to take care of a line of bills yesterday and that always makes me feel good! I promise to pay it forward!

Then let's not forget the homeprepared and delivered meals from family and friends as well as groceries delivered to my front door. I am grateful, touched and left speechless!

Thank you to every single one of you that gave me all of these above gifts that I consider virtual hugs and kisses in a time, that is so very difficult!

I feel OK. Still no sense of smell. My taste is somewhat back. I have a burning sensation in my airways, pain in my leg and my ears feel infected. Bad headaches. I am just grateful that I haven't been hit harder because if I was I would not be able to care for my children.

This was long but I had to write it down. I can' reach out to every single one of you because some of you I don't even know <3 But thank you! From the bottom of my heart.

With love,

Maria-Leena Kerr
