How To Change Colors In Crochet Without Weaving In Ends

May 27, 2022

One thing that makes crochet colour work a challenge, and that often puts people off trying it, especially beginners, is that it results in lots of tail ends that need to be woven in.

There are a few ways to avoid weaving in lots and lots of tail ends and I have recorded some video to share one of those methods with you. I've added a picture of my shawl in progress into the album and I'm nearly finished the body of the shawl, yay!

But this shawl is being made from one colourway, so why am I talking about colour changes?

Well, when you buy yarn from an independent yarn dyer, the colourways aren't always consistent - and this isn't a bad feature! One of the things I love about using hand-dyed yarn is that every hank is unique. But, I also don't want there to be a stark change when I go from finishing one hank to starting another, so I switch between the two every couple of rows to ensure a much smoother, more natural looking, transition. And... I do it without creating loads of yarn tails that need weaving in. Take a look at the shawl edge in the picture below, this method is practically invisible too. I'm excited to share it with you soon!
