Favorite Raw Cheese from Trader Joe's

Oct 25, 2021

We love eating raw cheese, but we have a problem finding a raw cheese in grocery stores that is low in salt.

Our favorite low-in-salt raw cheese from a grocery store can be found at Trader Joe's and also at Whole Foods. Although, this raw cheese will be cheaper at Trader Joe's.

The name of this cheese is Comte which comes from Eastern France. Comte is a French mountain semi-hard cheese with a creamy texture and a mild slightly-sweet flavor.

Only cheeses from within a designated area that meet a set of strict criteria will be permitted to be called Comte cheese.

For instance, only the raw milk from Montbeliarde or French Simmental cows is permitted or the cross-breeds of the two. These cows must also be fed fresh and natural food.

And the best part is that salt is not added to this raw milk cheese. Salt is only applied to the surface or rind of this cheese.

We love eating this low-in-salt raw cheese and it makes a great snack with slices of organic apples or pears!
