The Dingo Pup Turns One

The Dingo Pup Turns One

Feb 10, 2022

So, it's happened. We've finally made it to our 1st anniversary! In honour of this momentous event, I wanted to take a few minutes to reflect on all that we've accomplished in the last 12 months. We've laughed, we've cried (okay, maybe just laughed), but most importantly, we've entertained you, our listeners, week after week. Here's to another great year of podcasts! Cheers!

My first steps into podcasting were somewhat daunting. While I'm used to performing musically, it's another thing entirely to produce and front a new podcast. While the podcast's goal was to have some fun and talk about movies that I grew up watching at the movies or on VHS, I felt the pressure of trying to make the subject matter enjoyable; I wanted it to sound good. I spent quite a bit of time working on that, and I hope it comes through, especially in the more recent episodes.

If I think about the 18 episodes I've released in my first year, these are the top five that stand out for me:

  1. Episode One - An introduction to Ozploitation Cinema
A short episode and one of those episodes I kind of wish I could do-over. It set the tone and gave the listeners an idea of what to expect in the future (until I changed it up a bit).

  2. Episode Two - The Man From Hong Kong
My first 'proper' episode, joined by the fantastic Brandon Hardy, has become a regular guest. The Man From Hong Kong is one of my favourite Ozploitation films, and it was a blast recording and editing the episode.

  3. Episode Seven - Wake In Fright
Where do I start with this one? Let's start with the episode length, THREE AND A HALF HOURS! Luckily I had a great guest, Jay, that kept things fresh and fun. This was the first time I had edited anything of that length, and what a job it was! I didn't know if anyone would like this episode; however, it's our most downloaded episode to date. Go figure. :)

  4. Episode Thirteen - Starstruck
This is the episode that had me rethink the scope of the podcast. Not an Ozploitation film as such; Starstruck was a great episode that I enjoyed recording and putting together. Having Tab on board for this episode was perfect, considering her love of musical movies.

  5. Episode Sixteen - Stunt Rock
Yet another Brian Trenchard-Smith movie (there's been a few already). I had already started making some changes to the show's format by this time, and I think this was the episode where I was finally happy with the new format, most notably the episode introductions and voice over. Once again joined by Jay, this is one of my favourite episodes in my first year.

So that's it for our first year of A Dingo Ate My Movie. It's been a delightful twelve months, and it's been a pleasure bringing you the show every month. I'm looking forward to getting you more Ozploitation, lesser-known and underrated Australian films in the future. But before we sign off for year one, I want to know – what were your highlights? Please comment below and let us know which episodes you enjoyed most or if there was anything we missed or should cover in 2022. We love hearing from you, so keep those comments coming! Thank you for supporting us throughout our first year – here's to many more episodes to come.

Pete
