Jan 26, 2023

SAN FRANCISCO, January 20th, 2023 – Signal Awards – celebrating the world’s best Podcasts – announced winners of the inaugural honors on January 5, 2023 including Jonathan Cormur, a neurodivergent voice actor with an “acceptance through storytelling” mission. The award recognizes his work on the Dorktales Storytime, an indie-produced podcast for kids and their pop culture loving grownups. The award also includes Cormur’s creative team, Molly Murphy (writer/producer) and Jermaine Hamilton (audio engineer/sound production).

The Signal Awards were created to lift up and showcase the podcast industry’s diversity and depth, while also helping the community of listeners and fans find new shows and celebrate the existing ones they love,” said managing director Deondric Royster. “We congratulate the winners on their success and also thank the podcast-listening public for enthusiastically engaging in the very first year of our awards.

Signal Award Winners were selected by the Signal Academy including Founding Jurors Jody Avirgan (Host, This Day in Esoteric Behavior); Ray Chao (GM of Audio, Vox Media); Rachael King (CEO and Co-Founder, Pod People; Maya Watson (Head of Global Marketing, Clubhouse); Michael Gluckstadt (Director of Podcasts, HBO & HBO MAX); Anna Hossnieh (Executive Producer, iHeartRadio Comedy); Jenny Kaplan (Co-Founder and CEO, Wonder Media Network); Deray McKesson (Host, Pod Save the People / Co-founder & Executive Chair, Campaign Zero); and Nikki Silva (Co-Host, The Kitchen Sisters Present from PRX).

It’s such an honor to have our work selected amongst so many big names in podcasting,” said Jonathan Cormur. This Signal Award will help us reach more kids who need stories to remind them that they are inherently remarkable, something I needed to hear when I was growing up.”

With nearly 1700 entries received in its first year, Signal Awards is already one of the largest honors for podcasts in the world. Organizers also noted the diversity of companies creating and entering great Podcasts, including global media heavyweights like Apple, Audible, HBO Max, iHeartmedia, National Geographic, Netflix, Paramount, SXM Media, Cadence 13, Crooked Media, Lemonada Media, Pineapple Street, Qcode, Realm, Tenderfoot TV, and Vox Media Podcast Network.
