About My Top Ten (Favourites) Images of 2022

Jan 09, 2022

First, let me show you a collage of all ten of the images I selected as the top ten favourites, from all that I produced in 2021.

For the second year in a row, I had fewer images to choose from than in previous years. That said, I still had a number that were hard to remove from the final ten. As always, these are not necessarily my "best" images, they are ones that mean something special to me. It could be because of the location, or something new I tried or learned, or just the adventure involved in the photography process around the image.

One of the things I learned about my photography after reviewing my 2021 images, is that I am drawn to abstract scenes more often. While I use to have a specific photographic subject in mind and would get frustrated if I wasn't able to get the shot I wanted, I am now much more likely to step back and look around to see what I've been missing. Sometimes it's another big scene, but often it's the more intimate one, or something much more abstract.

Another exciting area of photography I've more recently started to explore, is using a drone (I am a Transport Canada certified 'drone' pilot). I not only like the ability to get an clear view over obstacles or capture an image from a location that wouldn't be safe or possible to stand, I love the perspective that is possible when looking straight down, showing features that would otherwise be impossible to see (short of being in an aircraft).

If you want a better look at all the individual images, along with a bit of a write up on them, please check out my post on my blog, Wild Drake Photography.
