Transitions on the way to becoming a caregiver advocate

Dec 13, 2022

I have been pondering transitions. Transitions aren't always easy. They affect your mental health, and sometimes your pocket book. When I am talking about transitions, I am not just talking about a career transition from, for example, academia to tech. However, that can also be a big transition.

Transitions such as moving abroad, a divorce, becoming a caregiver, or a death take major work, with meditation, journaling, coursework, therapy, or other sources. Currently, I am going through a major transition. And I have gone through a number of them. For now, I will just mention that 3 months ago, my dad, whom I was a caregiver for 10 years passed away. A death in itself is difficult. But being a caregiver, whom you become intimately engaged with for many years, it becomes your identity. So, when that person passes (and transitions themselves), you start to ask that question of "who am I". Everyday, I am discovering new aspects of myself as a result of this process. I am a former caregiver, a researcher, a writer, an educator, a daughter, a sister, etc.,
