An explanation as to why the gender pay gap absolutely still exists.

Unequal pay and the gender pay gap are two very different things. The gender pay gap is determined by adding together all the annual salaries of women who are working full time and finding the median value. The same is then done for men who work full time. It isn't the difference in pay between men and women doing the same job; it's no secret that unequal pay was abolished in the UK by law in 1970 via the Equal Pay Act. But despite this, in 2019 (before the pandemic lol) the gender pay gap in the UK was a whopping 17.3% which equates to, on average, 83p to the pound. Yikes.

So, how come there's a gender pay gap at all?
