A couple of weeks ago, my good friend and found of MusicFirst, Dr. Jim Frankel, wrote a blog post titled, “Have you heard of Chat GPT? You will soon!” Jim was certainly correct as over the past two weeks, I have heard more and more about it. I concur with Jim’s final thoughts in his post as this is amazing and frightening how far AI has come.

As Jim wrote, it did not give the same response to me as it did to him. There was one line that was the same, but the ideas were either different or varied.
When I asked it to write me a song about Valentine’s Day, I requested it several times and did come up with one time where it repeated itself.
The next question that was posed to me to ask AI is whether could it write a chord progression of a song.
The answer below shows you that it cannot yet because it is text-based, but it then went on to give me a four-step methodology.

Currently, ChatGPT is free as they conduct research about how the model interacts in a conversational way. This obviously has an impact on education. Yes, students are using it to write their assignments. But, this could also help students who cannot write lyrics in a traditional way. Yes, it can also help use it to assist you in writing an article or writing a song. For the latter, this is very helpful as writing lyrics to a song does not come naturally or quickly to me, and sometimes I need to write a quick song for the students. ChatGPT is currently free and in its research phase. You can give feedback and there is another version coming soon. I could look away from this technology but the fact is, children will most likely flock to it. Knowing as much as I can about it and learning ways to effectively use it could bring a positive impact on my classroom.
