Music: Emberhoney Film Score 'The Double Agent'
As an Artist, I constantly find myself poised at the boundary and blurring the lines between polarised elements... a double agent, perhaps, in the sense that I find myself working for the interests of both sides of a proposition.
This is clearly expressed in my adoration for both retro 'analogue' and modern digital technology. Vintage aesthetics with those clunky, visceral 'hands-on' switches and knobs make me squeal audibly with delight but digital recording and sound design tools dramatically enhance the quality and quantity of music I can create. So I find myself compelled to integrate the best of both worlds in order to transcend the limitations inherent in each.
This idea echoes throughout my life in general, which often feels like an exercise in transcending the paradox of identity...
Everything from:
1. My gender-bending, androgynous fashion and bi-sexuality
2. Having a flamboyant sense of style and dramatic stage persona, yet being a soft-spoken introvert.
3. Having not one but two main writing instruments (piano and guitar) and
4. Being both a sonic and visual artist.
5. Even exploiting my dual nationality by writing songs with both an American AND a British sensibility in order to exploit the rhyming and stylistic opportunities of one or the other...
In all of these contexts I am synthesising and integrating the disparate qualities of opposites with the intention of creating a transcendent whole greater than the sum of its parts.
And in writing this, I realise I have begun to explain the creative impulse, the emerging philosophy as it were, behind The Embersphere...
