Light, and Dark Places

Light, and Dark Places

Jan 20, 2023

The Spirit of God moves upon dark places.

He moved over the face of the deep - the waters. Waters metaphorically represent humanity, and a good part of humanity is in the dark. Their understanding is darkened - without light.

God said, "Let there be... Light." Light came upon the world at HIS command.

He saw the light and divided it. He called the Light Day, and the darkness He called Night.

It's okay to NOT understand. Darkness has its place.

Not understanding is part of the plan, just as much as understanding is. However, there are those who dwell in dark places purposefully.

Where are the dark places? In the dirt. (More coming on this in another post)

It would be easy to say that Darkness is GOOD, because it resided in the finished work. But in verse Genesis 1:4, it says, "And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness."

The light is good. Additionally, it is good that light should be divided from darkness.

That God "saw" the light can be translated, "God experienced the Light - that it was BETTER." The word for "saw" is:

H7200
ראה
râ'âh
raw-aw'

A primitive root; to see, literally or figuratively (in numerous applications, direct and implied, transitively, intransitively and causatively): - advise self, appear, approve, behold, X certainly, consider, discern, (make to) enjoy, have experience, gaze, take heed, X indeed, X joyfully, lo, look (on, one another, one on another, one upon another, out, up, upon), mark, meet, X be near, perceive, present, provide, regard, (have) respect, (fore-, cause to, let) see (-r, -m, one another), shew (self), X sight of others, (e-) spy, stare, X surely, X think, view, visions.

And the word for "Good", which is used extensively in the text, is:

H2896
טוב
ṭôb
tobe

From H2895; good (as an adjective) in the widest sense; used likewise as a noun, both in the masculine and the feminine, the singular and the plural (good, a good or good thing, a good man or woman; the good, goods or good things, good men or women), also as an adverb (well): - beautiful, best, better, bountiful, cheerful, at ease, X fair (word), (be in) favour, fine, glad, good (deed, -lier, liest, -ly, -ness, -s), graciously, joyful, kindly, kindness, liketh (best), loving, merry, X most, pleasant, + pleaseth, pleasure, precious, prosperity, ready, sweet, wealth, welfare, (be) well ([-favoured]).

The word for Light is:

H216
אור
'ôr
ore

From H215; illumination or (concretely) luminary (in every sense, including lightning, happiness, etc.): - bright, clear, + day, light (-ning), morning, sun.

The word for Darkness is:

H2822
חשׁך
chôshek
kho-shek'

From H2821; the dark; hence (literally) darkness; figuratively misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness: - dark (-ness), night, obscurity.

So God experienced the light (illumination, happiness, clarity), called it Good, and divided it from the darkness (misery, destruction, ignorance and sorrow).

Dan 2:21-22  And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.  (22)  He reveals the deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him.
