You're Mine - Chapter 1

You're Mine - Chapter 1

Jul 30, 2020

8 years earlier...

The room was quiet as it always was. People rarely came in here and that's what I liked most about this place. The 'Cool Kids' didn't come to the library. I look out the window beside me and see them all out there having fun, talking, kissing, or goofing off. And regardless of myself, I wanted to do that too.

My entire life I've planted myself in my books, trying my best to make something of myself in order to help. But it seems things are just getting worse and worse. It's not something I dwell on and I won't do it now because I have to study. There's only five more months left of high school for me.

The bell rang and I signed out another book before heading off. The librarian Mrs. Kenneth always smiles when she takes my card after. I don't know why. I'll probably never know.

An unusual crowd was gathered in the hallway and upon closer inspection it was a beat down. The usual jocks of our school were practically killing the poor kid.

"Hey! Stop that!"

They stopped and looked at me confusedly.

"What the hell are you doing rat-face? You want to take his blows?"

I walked in his face. "Go ahead. Hit me, but you don't lay a hand on him anymore."

They looked at me as if I had the word psycho on my forehead before they lingered and eventually walked off. Below my feet, lay a groaning boy.

"Come on, let's get you to the nurse's office," I sighed.

I tried not to hurt him as I lifted but he still groaned and I cringed. His curly black hair was wet with blood and sweat as it covered his face. His breathing was labored, so I knew I had to hurry.

"I'm sorry. Come on, you have to help even though it hurts okay?"

He groaned in reply.

We made it after a while and I eased him onto the cot. He sighed once he lay down. The nurse was out to lunch, so we had to make do. I got a bottle of water out of the mini fridge and I got some gauze as a makeshift cloth. Some peroxide and alcohol.

I stood over him and brushed the hair out of his eyes. Long dark lashes lay against his pale cheeks, the innocence in his face made him cute. What am I saying? I've never even had a boyfriend before, and besides, just because I helped him doesn't mean he'll ever like me.

I sighed as I patted the blood off his face. After a few minutes, the gash on his temple was padded, the split in his lip was patched, and the cuts on his fingers were bandaged.

Where the hell was this nurse?

The boy groaned as he came around and tried to get up. I rushed to him.

"Hey, take it easy. Don't move much." I helped him sit up and gave him some water.

"So, what did you do to warrant their wrath?"

"All I said was that I was new. Thanks for the help," he coughed.

"I'm sorry. They're a bunch of idiots for doing that. What's your name?"

"Rhius Salvatore. And yours?" His gaze was fixed on his lap.

I put my fingers beneath his chin and gently made him look up to me. His blue green eyes latched onto me. His lips parted as he continued to gaze at me.

"Regina Delmont."

The nurse burst through the door and I walked out and left him there.
