Step Four: Submit for Editorial Placement

Most of the big apps and platforms have paid methods of utilizing “premium” space on their homepage for merchandising. These coveted locations include feature banners, carousels and eye catchy placements in curated collections. This “prime real estate” in podcasting is very similar to  the featured placements in brick and mortar stores many years ago.  The idea is to  have your product at eye-level or where the consumer is most likely to search for content.

Take the music business, for instance.  Back in the day, labels would work tirelessly to have your favorite record placed at eye level at all the major retailers; but today, we utilize apps - and instead of browsing the aisles of a store, we often look at playlists, collections or “staff picks” for the latest and hottest releases.

This ideology works the same way in podcasting. Below is a list of apps that have curated  playlists. And the great news is that you can submit here for FREE. I do this for every single podcast release that I’ve promoted. The key is to stay encouraged. Even if you don’t get chosen immediately, continue to submit at the launch of every season. Don’t give up and keep  an eye out for themed calendars or open calls for content. (Some of these apps actually have newsletters and will share their editorial calendar by request).
