Dev Log 1/5/22

Jan 05, 2022

Welcome to 2022! We made it! And what better way to ring in the new year than with some incredible news?

I've coded in the entire story for the demo!

It's all there. The main tutorial with Alice, the solo introductions for Pax, Eli, and Gunther, the rough map layout and the functionality of choosing the locations you want to go, all the placeholder sprites and backgrounds and scenes; it's all there! I'm so proud and so excited to share this news because this means that all there's left to do is refine and polish and how much work could that possibly--

oh...

Jokes aside, the big number of tasks is not as nearly as intimidating as it looks. A lot of it is nitpicking and minor things that can be fixed quickly. For example, I made that list this morning and I've already completed 31 of the tasks I've assigned myself.

So, legitimately, what's next? "Refine and polish" is kind of vague, I know, so I'll elaborate a bit. A lot of it is art. I still have some animations to code in for the sprites, but that'll be easy enough to do and I want to have the sprites completed before I really start messing with that. So I'll need to take all the placeholder sprites and spruce them up, along with the backgrounds and the more rendered scenes. I also need to work on the UI, such as making the assets for the text boxes, the main menu, and the choice menus. I also need to clean up the character customization and map selection screens. I also need to delve deep into the realm of royalty free music and sound effects to liven everything up, but then that's it! I'm so close to dropping this demo and I'm so excited and nervous to share it with you all!

Keep your peepers on this page for more updates as we get closer and closer and I'll see you either when the demo drops or in the next dev log; whichever comes first!!
