For Video on Demand, patrons will receive a link and unique access code to a pre-recorded video of the event. The event may be watched at any time within the specified run dates, which may vary between events.

What is a Livestream?

For Livestream, patrons will receive a link and unique access code to a real-time, live video of the event. Similar to a live, in-person event, the livestream is only available at the time indicated on your confirmation.

When will I get the link to the performance?

For Video on Demand events, patrons will receive the link and unique access code in your confirmation email at the time of your purchase.

For Livestream events, you will also receive a performance reminder one day prior to the event that will also contain this link and unique access code.

If you have lost/deleted the email, please contact the Box Office for assistance at 916-995-5464 or [email protected]. Current hours are Tue-Thu 12:00-4:00 pm.

Is the performance password protected?

Yes. Each purchase will be assigned a link and unique access code included in the confirmation email. The unique access code is located directly below the link to watch. Please be advised, if you switch devices or try to log into a second device with this unique link/access code, the player will stop playing on the original device and continue in the newly logged in device. The purpose of this is to maintain the financial integrity of a ticket purchase, and the artistic license of the copywritten material offered by Capital Stage. Downloading, copying and/or sharing any material is strictly forbidden.

Can I view this content offline?

Unfortunately, no. You will need a reliable internet connection to view the content.

How do I view the performance on my mobile or tablet?

Virtual performances are accessible by any internet connected device (computer, tablet, or mobile) and can be viewed by opening the link provided in the confirmation email in any web browser app. The video player auto-scales to your screen size, so your viewing is always optimized.

How do I view the performance on my TV?

Virtual performances must be viewed in a web browser, whether that is on your computer, tablet, mobile device, or smart TV.

For best practices on streaming to your TV, see device specifics below:

Apple TV/Airplay: First, make sure both your Apple devices are on the same WiFi network. It is recommended to open and begin watching the video on your selected Apple device and then click the airplay icon in the top right corner of the video to cast the video to your Apple TV.

Smart TV: If your TV has a web browser app, it is recommended to log into your email account first on your TV. Next, open the email containing your show specific link and click the button link to watch. This should open a new window, pulling in your unique access code and the video player. The video should start automatically, if not, click play.

Amazon Fire Stick: To watch on with your Amazon Fire Stick, you must first download the free browser, Amazon Silk.

Download App: https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-com-Amazon-Silk-Web-Browser/dp/B01M35MQV4

Using this browser, log into your email and open the show specific link and click the button link to watch. (You may need to click the request desktop site in the top menu to read the whole email.)

Allow the browser to leave the page.

This should open a new window, pulling in your unique access code and the video player. The video should start automatically, if not, click play.

Roku: First, make sure both your mobile device and Roku device are on the same WiFi network. In order to watch on your Roku device, you must first download the following app on your mobile device for $4.99 and follow these steps:

Download App: https://channelstore.roku.com/details/150902/mirror-for-roku

Add the Mirror for Roku channel to your Roku device and then open the channel.

On your mobile device, open the Mirror for Roku app and mirror your device to your Roku device.

Open the link from your email in your mobile browser, rotate your device and click play to watch it full screen. Turn the volume off on your mobile device to enjoy!

Google Chromecast: These best use practices do not recommend using Chromecast at this time.

How many times can I watch the performance?

Livestreams are just like attending a live, in-person performance; the performance begins and is only available at the start time indicated in your confirmation.

Do not start the Video on Demand production until you are ready to watch it in its entirety. You do have the ability to pause the performance, but there is a time limit per each access code, which will be specified in your email confirmation.

Who do I contact if I have problems with the service?

Please contact the Box Office directly at 916-995-5464, for any troubleshooting or issues with virtual performances. The Box Office hours are Tue-Thu from 12:00 – 4:00 pm; additionally Box Office personnel will be remotely available the hour before and during all live events.

PRS for Music has today launched a new licensing portal for music creators, venues and promoters wanting to stage and livestream small-scale gigs, DJ events, classical concerts and theatrical events online. The portal has been launched in response to the huge rise in livestreamed concerts as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Available for live online events staged in the UK with revenues below £500, the new portal will allow the event organiser to pay the fixed licence fee and obtain the necessary rights for their event simply and quickly. PRS for Music will not be actively pursuing licences for livestreamed events that took place prior to the launch of the new portal, which would have qualified for the fixed fee licence.

Online live concerts are a form of video exploitation and require a licence for the same rights as any other type of online music usage. In normal circumstances, online live concerts are an incremental revenue stream to live performance. PRS for Music, however, recognises that as long as the physical live sector remains closed, livestreamed concerts, whilst still a different form of exploitation to a physical gig or concert, are in part substitutional for physical gigs and concerts. As such, PRS for Music is proposing to apply temporary discounted rates until the live sector can reopen. Conversations are active and ongoing with major licensees about the details of such discounted rates. In the meantime, anyone considering planning an online ticketed music event that does not qualify for the fixed fee licence should contact the PRS for Music licensing team who can offer bespoke advice on licensing options.

PRS for Music is proactively in discussion with other societies to deliver licensing solutions for UK based gigs and concerts which might be accessed internationally. A global blanket licence of this type would be the first of its kind within the collecting society network.

PRS for Music is encouraging members to access its brand-new educational webpage to find out more about how they can capitalise on their livestreamed gigs and how to ensure they are properly licensed.

We recognise the importance of providing simple licensing solutions wherever possible and the licensing portal for small-scale online events is an example of this. We are continuing to work hard to agree a range of licensing options for providers of larger events, including a proposed discounted rate during the pandemic. This is a part of the market which has seen exponential growth and is itself constantly evolving, meeting the expectations for worldwide blanket licences is alone no small feat, but we are committed to finding solutions which ensure members can be paid fairly when their works are performed.

Andrea C. Martin, CEO, PRS for Music

Composers and songwriters have faced monumental challenges this past year. So, the huge surge in the online live concert market beyond anyone’s expectations, is positive news all round. It is great that so many artists are performing online concerts to stay connected with fans, to earn a living, and to promote new releases. Anyone wanting to hold small online ticketed gigs can now get a PRS licence in a simple and straightforward way. This will create even more opportunities for artists, musicians and writers to thrive together while ensuring that songwriters and composers are being properly paid when their music is performed.
