Bernard Allison
Der große Chicagoer Blueskünstler Luther Allison lebte nach einer simplen Philosophie, die er gerne teilte: „Lass dein Ego hinter dir, spiel die Musik, liebe die Menschen“. Heute, 23 Jahre nach Luthers Tod, wäre der große Mann sicherlich begeistert, Bernard Allisons zu hören und stolz darauf, dass sein überaus talentierter Sohn sich auf denselben Weg begeben hat und soulgetränkten, temperamentvollen Blues an eine Hörerschaft bringt, die ihn mehr denn je braucht.
Einmal ganz abgesehen von der saiten-technischen Perfektion und der überzeugenden Symbiose aus Gesang und virtuosem Gitarrenspiel, besticht Bernard durch seine coole Darbietung von funky Blues und Blues Rock, ohne dabei effektheischend zu wirken. Als Sohn des bekannten Blues Gitarristen Luther Allison bekam er schon im zarten Alter von 10 Jahren eine ausführliche Einweisung in die Geheimnisse der schwarzen Musik. Es folgten weitere 10 Jahre Lehrzeit, unter anderem mit Koko Taylor und bei zahlreichen Sessions mit Musikern wie Johnny Winter und Steve Ray Vaughan. Daraus entwickelte Allison seinen ganz eigenen Sound, seine eigene rockig-funkige Interpretation des Blues, mit der er sich längst aus dem Schatten seines Vaters heraus katapultiert hat.
2021 wird Bernard Allison erneut in Deutschland einige wenige Termine spielen u.a. bei den Internationalen Blues Festivals in Kiel und Rostock. Jetzt eines der begehrten Tickets sichern und einen großartigen Gitarrenkünstler live erleben.
Kai Strauss & The Electric Blues All Stars
Kai Strauss zählt zum kleinen Kreis europäischer Bluesmusiker, denen auch amerikanische Kollegen und Kritiker einen authentischen Stil attestieren. Musikalisch aufgewachsen in Deutschlands Blueshochburg Osnabrück, erspielte sich Strauss in den zurückliegenden 25 Jahren einen festen Platz in den Herzen der Bluesgemeinde.
„Schon als Teenager war ich von der Musik von Buddy Guy, B.B. King oder Jimmie Vaughan infiziert“ sagt der Gitarrist und Sänger, der laut Aussage des Fachmagazins „Blues News“ mittlerweile in der europäischen Szene als einer der großen Namen gilt. Vier deutsche Blues Awards (u.a. Bester Gitarrist 2018, Beste Band 2016), TV-Auftritte, Musikmagazin-Cover sowie Konzerte in über 20 Ländern sind bemerkenswerte Eckdaten in Strauss‘ Karriere. Guter Blues wird genährt durch persönliche Erfahrungen und Leidenschaft. Entscheidende Qualitäten von Kai Strauss, der seinem Instrument die Geschichten entlockt, die das Leben schreibt. „Strauss spielt mit tiefem musikalischem Verständnis und fügt instinktiv die richtigen Noten und Soli zusammen. Er zeigt den Killerinstinkt, den die alten Meister wie Magic Sam hatten“ urteilt Großbritanniens Blueslegende Otis Grand über das aktuelle 2019er Album „Live In Concert“.

The Toronto Blues Society board of directors is pleased to announce Calgary's Cindy McLeod as the winner of the newly renamed John Valenteyn Blues Booster of the Year award, a very special Maple Blues Award honouring outstanding contribution to the Canadian blues music industry. The esteemed award has been renamed in honour of the late John Valenteyn, a co-founder of the Toronto Blues Society, long-time radio DJ, and dedicated volunteer.
"Every city needs a leadership figure like Cindy McLeod to keep the flames of music strong. Cindy's personal passion for the Calgary Blues Festival and projects related is an inspiration for all and makes her a deserving recipient of the annual Blues Booster honour", says Derek Andrews, President of the Toronto Blues Society.
A "Jill of all trades", McLeod is a founder of the Calgary Blues Music Association (CBMA) as well as the Calgary International Blues Festival and the Calgary Midwinter Bluesfest, Cindy acts as Producer and Artistic Director for the organization and has been instrumental in creating what has become one of the largest blues music festivals in Western Canada.
A recognized leader in Canadian music, she has been asked to sit on multiple juries for the Western Canadian Music Awards (WCMA), Eastern Canadian Music Awards (ECMA), PEI Awards, JUNO, Harvard, FACTOR, the International Blues Challenge/Edmonton, and the Mayor's Arts Awards, and has sat on various boards including Calgary Blues Music Association, Jazz Is Society of Alberta, JazzYYC, the Alberta Music Industry Association, PAL Calgary and the Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta. Cindy received the 2019 Industry Person of the Year Award for Calgary's YYC Music Awards. She is also the host of The Blues Witness radio program, which can be heard weekly on CJSW Radio 90.9FM in Calgary and online.

The 24th annual Maple Blues Awards are going virtual in 2021, with the winners being announced and streamed from four different cities with local performers and hosts from Toronto (February 1), Ottawa (February 8), Montreal (February 15), and Vancouver (February 22).
