Satechi - 165W Charger - Bringing the Heat

Jan 20, 2023

Satechi dropped their 165W USB-C GAN PD CHARGER down under and it brings the heat.

Most of you who know me would know that I primarily have been speaking highly of the Belkin 108W BoostUp Charge Pro and one of the concerns was I wish it had a Extra USB C port, and that's true and a little more power would have been nice too.

I carry a bit of tech with me on the travels I tend to travel with a MacBook, Drone and other technology that I need to charge on thew run, a lot of that technology is carried with me and needs to be charged, we know a lot of the tech that we rely on, on a daily basis requires a lot of power so having one brick that can finally do it all and having no USB A is a strong bonus, in all honesty - My computer and my power bank barely even run a USB A port now days.

This charger will cost you $199.99 in Australia. Satechi 165w charger has a desk top stand which is handy for it standing it up which keeps it standing upright which is a good thing for the charger. The Satechi charger has a space grey design which compliments your set up.

I have noticed even when all four ports are engaged with the charging devices that the device doesn't get as hot as the Belkin 108W does, and that's definitely a good thing.

The Satechi is only weighing in at 340Grams and there's definitely nothing wrong with that, it's definitely got the smaller footprint when compared to the Belkin and it's rocking additional OUTPUT which is definitely another strong win.

I think the Satechi is a valid piece of kit for charging everything you need on the run and that's definitely a good thing to be honest with however would I be lying to say I wish there was more than a 4 port version, no I wouldn't be lying but I do see why most of these high powered GaN chargers are limited to 4 ports.

The Satechi is definitely the charger I reach for to travel with it's so good having one charger that can charge everything I need when travelling which is definitely a strong bonus for me not to mention that that the Satechi 165W fits in my alpaka tech kit without any added bulk or stress depending on the load out of the said tech kit.

Conclusion: The Satechi 165W might be overkill for a lot of people especially if your devices don't require the high power of the outputs, the satechi may also be overkill if you need USB A ports and don't want to use and/or travel with adaptors for USB A to C. However this is for those who want a one plug desktop solution that can handle everything you need on the run and then some, or those digital nomads that travel and need a good all rounder fast travel charger that will charge all your tech on the run and then some. I think this is designed for the digital nomads and those travellers that are all about a one stop solution. I think the price is pretty decent for the quality of product that you get however, at $199.00 it comes in at the higher end of the solutions to be honest for most people and that may be a little hard for some people to swallow.
