Satechi On The Go Hub - First Impression ...

Satechi On The Go Hub - First Impressions.

Aug 11, 2022

The first thing I notice with this hub is the fact it's still rocking a dated VGA connection which I am sure there's some people out there that still need that connection but that's not me, I don't really find a use for a VGA connection, none of my monitors that I use on the daily have that connection. Plus if I am plugging in to a monitor it's more of a chance that I will be plugging in to the Surface Dock which is, my go to dock when using the surface pro 8 in a none travel environment.

The Satechi On The Go Hub also comes with a stowable hub, and a 1 metre cable for when you need something a little bit longer this is very similiar to the set up, with the StayGo by TwelveSouth.

What I do like about the Satechi On The GO is the fact that we've got more than one USB C, port that is functional and that's a strong win for me cause my usual load out looks a lot like TWO SSD's usually both using USB C and there's a few reasons for this and one of the main ones is the fact that SSD's are the future going forward especially for content creators, there's no doubting that.

Satechi when designing this has really thought about the fact you're going to be rocking a MACBOOK, just because of the orientation of the hub it's self with the USB C to connect the hub being on the right hand side which aids to your USB A ports x 2 and Micro SD and Card Reader being on the front while your HDMI and USB C x 2 are off to the back and the Ethernet and VGA on the side. The orientation of the dock doesn't really matter unless your OCD cause at the end of the day it will still remain functional and that's why you've got the dock in the first place to do it's job.

Honestly so far I have experienced no over heating issues, and no connection or disconnection issues and that's a pretty good advantage if you ask me, I know a lot of people on JB Hi Fi didn't like this hub and had issues with it but so far I have rocked it for a couple of days and I have been using this as my primary in place of the TwelveSouth Hub.

I think Satechi has executed this quite well with the exception of VGA to me that's a dated connection that I don't see any one using it but who knows there might be some one out there rocking a monitor with that connection but that's definitely not me and that's just a fact of life.

It's a little rounded on the top but flat on the bottom which still remains it to sit flat on the desk which means it's not going any where.

In conclusion of my first impressions I think this poses good value for money and a wide variety of ports and it's compact enough to slide in to even the tightest of pockets on your bags regardless of the bag you carry.
