Seagate OneTouch SSD 500GB

Seagate OneTouch SSD 500GB

Seagate has had their skin in the game with hard drives since ever I can remember and there portable SSD's are becoming the one to beat at least price wise here in Australia and that's just a matter of a fact, there's no doubt a struggle here with prices when items are converted from USD to AUD the aussie is always getting screwed and that's a fact of life, but you've got to look at price versus performance and how these compare to the most popular USB C SSD the Samsung T7/T7 Touch.

If we're stacking prices of the Samsung T7 500GB will run you around $149.00, and the T7 Touch will currently run you the same, based on JB HI FI prices. The OneTouch will run you $129.00, for blue or black and $159.00 for Silver, but I have found these as low as $99.00 with a retailer.

The thing that is unparallel is the OneTouch is lighter and smaller than the T7, I use a T7 Touch 500GB for my more sensitive video files and data files cause having that finger print protection for me is personally important depending on the data I am using.

Both these drives ship with USB A to C and C to C cables while they are shorter than I would personally like for my digital storage devices they certainly serve the purpose in which they are designed for and that's a fact of life. Honestly these cables that are included with the seagate onetouch SSD are 10.5 cms long and bloody F*CKING useless. The USB A to C cable was black and the USB C to C was white, are you for real?

The Seagate Drive doesn't really speak ruggedness, if your looking for a SSD that can be some what tough and durable then the Seagate SSD possibly isn't for you and that's just a fact of life at the end of the day - Another Solid Seagate option could be the Firecuda Gaming SSD with the flashing RGB, it's solid metal enclosure, definitely speaks and boasts durability but that's a story for another day.

There's definitely no bells and whistles here for the Seagate, and if your looking for a SSD with all the trimmings then this isn't the drive for you and that's fact a of life. Thought the included Seagate toolkit which is a free download from the Seagate Website is a nice touch and gives you free back up software which allows you to back up your computer - which I will say once again is a nice touch and it's easy enough to use for most people.

dxsYou've also got your choices of colours in the SSD too, you've got a Silver, blue and a black for the purpose of this review not that it matters too much we are using the blue version of this SSD.

I am finding the speeds of this drive to be extremely good using it with most devices, my Samsung Tab S8 and the iPad Air M1 has no issues picking up and detecting this drive and transferring files off it and on to it.

I am honestly loving this SSD and I would switch all my SSD's for these with the exception of maybe one T7 Touch as I think I do need the fingerprint for some of the files I carry with me on my daily as some of them are sensitive files.

So in conclusion I think this SSD is perfect for someone who wants a basic SSD that provides good value for money while not skimping on the speeds of the SSD and the whole point of the SSD form factor, these are great and these will remain as my go to recommended SSD.
