Welsh tour

Apr 11, 2022

Hey everyone 👋

Before I start my placement on a campsite in Devon on the 20th of May 2022, I decided I'd do a quick tour of the Welsh coast.

I only have just over 5 weeks before I need to be in Devon, so it's going to be far quicker than I'd like.

I am therefore going to streamline my list of things to see in Wales to those that really stand out. One such example is photographing the puffins in Skomer. The best time to photograph them is from April-July during their breeding season. Skomer has the largest population of puffins in Wales and one of the largest in the UK. So whilst there are other places within the UK to photograph these, Skomer is the closest to my current location. And photographing them has been on my to-do list for some time. Once I start my placement in May, I will miss the opportunity to photograph them this year so I simply MUST do it during this tour.

I have identified hundreds (perhaps thousands) of things I want to see/do in Wales when I spent way too much of my life creating lists for each county within the UK!. Seeing all of these will take several months. Many of these items would take the best part of an entire day to do, for example, some of the hikes or peaks/mountains.

Coastal tour

I have decided I'm going to stick to the coastline as much as possible. As I currently stay on campsites this will obviously be dependent on campsites being available along the coast as it is now Easter holidays in the UK for the next two weeks.

Having identified all the places in Wales I want to see when creating those lists, it really did open my eyes to the beauty to be found in Wales and the UK as a whole. And I'm really excited to bring some of these places to you in images and videos.

Denbigh

I am currently on a campsite near Denbigh, Wales. I'll be here until Friday and will use it as my base from which to explore the local area.

From here I'll look to move towards Anglesey, then further South exiting Wales via Chepstow making my way to Devon.

It's a pretty cool campsite, well for me as a photographer anyway. It is a massive site with an airfield! Gliders and small engine aircraft take off and land here so I have ample opportunity to get some footage of aircraft. There are several forest walks and an offroad track all within the site.

Anyway, I digress.

I hope you will come along for the journey as I explore the coastline of Wales 😊

Be safe. Be happy. Be kind.

Much love,

Elton x
