6 months from today I turn 30. To celebrate it, I have decided to make a DIY Movie Musical. It is a memoir based musical about turning 30 and having had some success, but still not being where I want to be and still missing some things you'd like to have at 30 like an apartment of your own. The musical will also be a love letter to NYC and the last 5 years I've spent here. It will be called A Day in the Life(title may change).
What inspired this exactly? In November of 2021 Johnathon Larson's Tik Tik Boom was released as a movie musical. It was a memoir musical Larson wrote about the failure to get his first musical, which he spent 8 years writing, produced just before his 30th birthday. I left the theater and just started walking through Central Park with all of these lyrical lines popping into my head from my own life. Before long I had enough songs to make a musical.
Staging a musical is quite expensive, and I wanted everyone who is not in NYC, but has followed my journey since the beginning to be able to watch it, so I've decided to turn this musical into a movie. I will be filming it all on my camera and recording the songs on my own. So far the instrumentation will just be ukulele and piano, but depending on what resources I can pull together, I would like to include some strings. I will be giving updates here! I plan on filming in April. So until then I will be finishing the script and recording the music.
