Me and the other admin have been having a crisis of conscience.
The three of us are acutely aware that a lot of people are experiencing a time of dire poverty. We are radio by the community, for the community - we do not want to be elitist or exclusive. We did not want to guilt trip folk in to believing they had to fork out what, in hindsight, would have been a lot of money.
The old system of £5/month would have broken some. We are trying to make membership as democratic as possible - even if sponsoring a media outlet is a privilege.
So, we have slashed membership rates by 60% - it now costs £2/month to regularly support advert-free, independent radio in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
However, we will never make it a requirement to chip in to listen to the station - we are grateful for the help we have received along the way - but, we are trying not to price people out of the fun.
So, from now on membership will be £2 a month or £20 a year.
