Heartworm and dogs...

Feb 08, 2021

As dog owners, we hear about it, we give our pets tablets to prevent it but what actually is it?

Heartworm is an internal parasite of the heart. Adult heartworms can reach up to 25cm long and live in the right side of the heart.

The presence of heartworms can cause clots in the lungs or kidneys, heart failure, aortic rupture and even death.

Heartworm is a disease transmitted by mosquitoes; the mosquitoes pick up microfilaria (baby heartworms) from an infected animal, and when it bites another animal, then transfers the microfilaria which migrates through the body, settling in the heart and causes havoc to our furry friends!

We, unfortunately, have THREE furry friends in our care who have tested positive to heartworm.

Treatment is very expensive and so, we need YOUR help to help these guys make a full recovery!

Please, help a defie.

All donations over $2 are tax-deductible. Send us an email if you require a receipt and attach a copy of your payment receipt.

We will tell you more about heartworm as we follow Slick, Andromeda and Crank through their heartworm treatment.
