Airfix St Louis back on the bench

Airfix St Louis back on the bench

Nov 16, 2022

Back on the plastic slipway for maintence after her long voyage from Brisbane and an upgrade refit is my Airfix 1:144 St Louis.

The repairs were mostly known already after in my haste to pack up the big ships, when the Removalist guys were an hour early and caught me packing the last of my on display model ships, I had snapped the fore and mizzen masts at their base when ham fistedly removing the dry fit parts.

Easily fixed with some wire inserted to a hole drilled into the mast base and the broken plastic tab, which was now snapped off in the deck. I’ve been here before. No biggie.

Then there were missing cannons, a loose and floppy cannon port lid plus 2 of the railings gold fluer de lis had snapped off. These were the ones I had cast in Milliput and one was found in the packing box but one has gone to styrene heaven. We can recast!

Plus there was the fix for the base of the main mast now showing in the open rear gun deck. I had this on my list of upgrades anyway. It was fun to get her back on the workbench and my next video will show my repairs and upgrades.
