Bingley Conquerors More Like!

Aug 07, 2022

Quick e-cycle across Oxenhope Moor to Haworth Cricket Club for a fixture against table-topping-not-lost-for-a-while Bingley Congs. Arriving as the visitors were batting, it was quickly apparent why they have been so successful this season. With just under half their allotted overs still to play they were already well on the way to securing a second century. Three wickets down though, so still some hope for Haworth.

Enter a Congs player who proceeded to demolish the home bowling attack with a series of hits that brought it two problems: the rapidly diminishing chances of victory and a sudden scarcity of cricket balls due to so many of them being lost in neighbouring fields and gardens. ickledot’s since discovered his name to be Neil Copping and he’s got form for this kind of thing. It was a fantastic knock and by the time he was out, a total of 300 was very much on the cards.

Haworth bowlers plugged away valiantly, taking several more wickets. Despite this, Congs had amassed 305 runs by the end of their innings. The Haworth reply began with a dogged defence against a formidable Bingley attack and runs were hard to come by. Although a number of partnerships were established, wickets also fell steadily. ickledot stayed until the possibility of a home victory became virtually impossible. Reading the scores online later, the total of 168 gained by Haworth was quite respectable in the face of such strong opposition. A highly entertaining afternoon. Well done and thanks to both sides.

A mixed afternoon photographically. No ‘bowled’ shots or catches captured, unless you account a couple by the Congs wicketkeeper. For these and a few more, have a look here.
