Eric Seidel picked up another high roller win in his stellar career by winning the Event #9: $25,000 No Limit Hold at the 2022 U.S. Poker Open. Seidel topped the only Phil Helmut in head-up play after becoming the last two players in the 63 entry field. Seidel took the largest share of the prize pool, winning $472,500.
Seidel said, "It was very crazy that the two of us put our heads together," adding, "It was fun because this is the third time we put our heads together."
Seidel later added that every time he faced Helmut, he came out on top and is now 3-0 perfect. The first was the $1,000 No Limit Holdham Tournament at Bicycle Casino in 1988. And in 1992, at the WSOP $2,500 Limit Holdham event in Binions, Seidel beat Helmut to win his first gold medal bracelet.
"It's always fun to play the last table," Seidel said. "I don't think there's any particular significance that we were ahead because I would have been happy to win against someone. It's great when things go as you please for a few hours at such an important time. It's great."
Seidel won $472,500 in prize money, moving him to fourth place in the all-time poker prize rankings ahead of David Peters and taking him to fifth place on the 2022 U.S. Poker Open leaderboard. Seidel scored 428 points, just behind Helmut, who now has 464. Seidel later said he plans to continue playing in the U.S. Poker Open in hopes of winning the series.
