Bearded dragon 101 - Age and size

Bearded dragon 101 - Age and size

Mar 30, 2021

Welcome to my blog about bearded dragons. I’ve had one for almost 8 months now and want to share my complete experience in order to help anyone who may think about getting this majestic creature as a pet. So for my first post, I’ll talk about their size and age.

Bearded dragons have an average life expectancy of 10-12 years which means that by getting one you commit to caring for something for a really long period of time. Also, they reach their full size by only year 1! So getting a big enough terrarium is really important. My beauty here is only eight months old like I’ve mentioned and already 26cm long (my leg for comparison).

And here is a custom-made chart of how a healthy dragon should develop during that first year.

Fun fact! It’s hard to determine whether the dragon is a male or female during the first one or two months because their genitals don’t develop enough and therefore my lady dragon (which was named immediately after buying it) is named Spike.

Greetings from Ivan and lady Spike, hope to see you again. ^_^
