SMLIAG Chapter 37 - Blessing or Curse?

SMLIAG Chapter 37 - Blessing or Curse?

Jun 29, 2023

It wasn't like him.

The more he explained about Yura, the more he became strangely enraged.

Especially when he explained that she called him "Adrian."

Adrian was the name that was supposed to be given to him by Yura in the original novel.

Even if it was not the time nor place where they should have met, to think she would give Enoch the same name. It was amazing.

"She called him Adrian...….”

It was a brief comment, but he definitely caught it.

At Rosenta’s murmurs, Enoch’s pale eyes filled with life.

Enoch was displeased.

"It was similar to enchantment magic, but it wasn’t magic. It didn’t leave behind any traces of magic."

Similar to magic, but not magic. Then, did that mean that there really was a coercive force of fiction?

Everything was normal before Yura's appearance, but had things changed now that she had appeared?

Did that mean that the world now flowed with Yura at the center?

But...

"It seems a bit too forced."

The idea of the main character having some strange coercive force, given by fate, was too far-fetched.

It was unnatural, as though trying to make it fit. Yeah. There must be something more.

"Enoch."

Rosenta called him hoping he might get another hint from Enoch.

But even before he called him, Enoch had fixed his eyes on him.

He remained unblinking.

The look in his eyes was quite burdensome, so Rosenta swallowed for a moment and then spoke to him again.

"……what do you think?"

"A curse."

It was only two syllables, but enough to surprise him.

‘What do you mean a curse?’

Yeah. It would make sense if it was a curse.

Rosenta was agonizing over it with a serious look, but Enoch wasn’t finished talking and said another work this time.

"Or a blessing."

"Blessing? What do you mean…….”

"There is a difference between a curse and a blessing."

Enoch turned his palm over and explained, “What is a blessing to some is a curse to others.”

That was a plausible explanation. It sounded like the correct reasoning so Rosenta couldn’t say anything more.

He gently bit his lower lip and continued listening to Enoch’s explanation.

“But I think the saint might be the medium. On such a large scale that it affects those around her….”

Enoch stopped speaking as if leaving the rest for Rosenta to put together.

Rosenta followed Enoch’s words.

“A curse.”

‘I guess I was right.’

Enoch nodded. But he crumpled his face to the point where it looked very ugly.

"If you can't break the curse, I'll dig those eyes out myself. Those very unpleasant eyes...….”

Did he even understand what he was saying?

Enoch seemed to be struggling to focus, pouring out vicious words. He seemed full of rage.

"How did it feel?"

It seemed that Rosenta’s question reminded him of the feelings of that time.

Enoch's face was distorted like a yaksha (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/yaksha). If Yura had been in front of him, he’d probably have attacked her right away.

"Every time I looked into her eyes; false feelings turned my stomach. I felt like a dog.”

‘But looking at Yura didn’t bother me.’

Rosenta had never felt that his heart was shaken, or like he’d had a crush on her, or anything like that.

‘Ah.’

‘Did the curse not work on me because I’m a necromancer?’

That was plausible. Then...… It was time to think about something else.

What kind of curse had been used?

"Enoch."

The secret room came to mind.

He needed to take a closer look at the books he’d read there.

"What?"

"I need to go to the top floor."

***

It was the middle of the night.

Therefore, Rosenta was able to head to the top floor very comfortably without being noticed by others.

As always, Enoch stopped at the door.

Through the gap in the open door, his eyes shined intensely at Rosenta, but it couldn’t be helped.

Rosenta closed the door firmly.

"The book I was reading at that time..."

As soon as he entered the room, the first thing he did was take out all the books related to curses.

Since they were books he had already read, he was able to easily open to the part wanted to find.

Funnily enough, once he’d realized that it was a ‘curse’, he was able to see the things that he had overlooked before.

Based on the conversation he’d had with Enoch earlier; he cross-referenced the information found in the books.

Combining those things, he searched through the books as much as he could.

And finally...….

"I found it."

‘Curses of turbulence."

Turbulence was a term referring to a state of bewilderment and confusion.

It looked the most similar to the state Enoch and Theodore described.

However, no matter how much Rosenta read the brief explanation written under the curse of turbulence, a solution did not come easily.

It's easy to break the curse of turbulence. By combining these four things, you can make a "SEGMENTUM" potion.

Combining these four things required drawing geometric patterns.

There was only one component Rosenta could recognize, a snow crystal.

There was an illustration of ice crystals in a circle. It was a notation for a very rare ‘snow crystal’ which was only found in glaciers.

“I have no idea regarding the other 3.”

As tiredness washed over him, he sat his butt down roughly in an old chair.

It was then.

Every time he moved, he felt something rustling in his pocket.

“Oh, this is…”

It was the piece of paper that he’d received from Nike.

It contained the supplies that his father had been receiving.

How could he forget about this? He was filled with emptiness.

Without thinking, he unfolded the paper.

And at that moment, he realized that the real answer was right there.

"These illustrations...… It's the pattern I just saw in a book."

Along with the names of the plants, geometric patterns were painted next to them.

Just like a sign.

There was nothing to worry about. He quickly opened the book he saw earlier again.

He looked at the pictures on that list and compared them one by one with the book.

Finally, he was able to figure it out.

"Prova petals, a Panitico, Fantasia roots."

He quickly retrieved an empty sheet of paper and made a brief note of what he’d found.

He folded it several times and put it in his pant pocket.

"I’m tired since I didn’t get any sleep, but I'm glad I had a good harvest."

Of course, Enoch's role was quite large in obtaining this harvest.

It was to the point that Rosenta felt he could give Enoch anything he wanted.

After loudly stretching, he slipped the door open.

It was only a few steps apart, but it was dark in the space between the doors.

At that moment, before entering the outer room, he remembered Enoch standing there watching him.

‘Don't tell me he’s still waiting for me out here in the dark.’

He called Enoch just in case.

"Enoch."

Strangely, an answer came.

"Yes."

Enoch was still there waiting for him.

In a corner where no light shone.

Leaning against a dirty stone wall, sitting on a black, dusty floor.

He looked at Enoch, who was still staring at him with his head up.

Then, instead of waiting for his brain, his mouth spoke freely.

"Brushing... Do you like it?"
