End of Summer update

End of Summer update

Feb 24, 2022

Hello! I'm glad to see the rear end of Summer, finally. I much prefer the cooler weather in late Autumn and early Winter. I just love rugging up, wearing jackets, hoodies and blazers. It probably has something to do with being born in the month of April (hint hint, it's my birthday on April 12). My birthday usually falls around Easter and Holy Week. A lot has taken place on the channel since last month's update, so as usual I will share some of my favourites along with a little commentary (in no particular order).

  1. Fawcett Unison Canticles

The Swell Vox "OG" join forces with Callum Knox to sing this enjoyable setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by David Fawcett. I got a few pointers from Callum on accompanying Anglican repertoire which was quite inspiring. I was really proud of this recording!

  1. Twist - Song at Dusk

Thanks to a very generous organ YouTuber, I acquired the sample set of Sankt Arnual (Kuhn organ), which is a French inspired modern instrument. To take it through its paces, I played Graham Twist's newest composition "Song at Dusk", featuring the Flute Harmonique.

  1. Walton - Crown Imperial

I recently acquired the new 1894 Henry Willis sample set by Silver Octopus Studios. What better way to take it through its paces by playing the famous Murrill arrangement of the Walton Crown Imperial.

  2. Stevens - Festive Preludes

You will have heard me play a lot of James Michael Stevens in Virtual Vespers. However, the pieces in this collection are not meditative! These are VERY festive and I had to use the Rotterdam sample set to explore 5 different tutti registrations. James dedicated these preludes to composer, Carson Cooman. I hope one day James will dedicate a piece for me :)

  3. Organ ramble with James and Knoxey

My friend, Callum Knox, recently came down to visit and played an organ recital at the Tunes on Tuesday lunchtime event. I was specifically asked by Callum to create a separate video for his recital and another for the funny bits. So naturally, here's the funny video and you'll find the recital video here:

Thanks for your ongoing support! It's with your words of encouragement that inspires me to continue to shape the future of classical and sacred music to the next generation of musicians.

Finally, if you haven't noticed, BMC is only accepting credit card support now. If you used to subscribe via PayPal, you will need to switch over. Alternatively, you may click the link below to explore other options to support me (manual PayPal link). Lately, a popular support method has been the "YouTube memberships". You get a fancy pipe organ emoji next to your name in comments and live chat, along with access to custom emojis. I'll leave that all optionally up to you.
