Who's spotting for Spotify?

Mar 19, 2021

Most of us listen to music on a daily basis, speaking for myself as well as many others, I use Spotify as a music platform. Unfortunately, due to a large scale credential attack, many user's emails, passwords, and possibly even credit cards or bank account information. The full attack is detailed in the article by Cyber Security News, although there is not a list of compromised accounts, if you notice your password was changed, new playlists, or strange users attached to your accounts, then your account was most likely among the list of stolen accounts.

If you believe that your account was among those compromised, merely change the password attached to your account, remove any bogus users and playlists, along with the possibility of changing your credit or debit cards if they are attached to your account. If by chance your cards are on your Spotify account, I recommend taking basic fraud precautions and freezing the card in question and requesting a new card from your bank.

Unfortunately, in the world of technology cyber criminals get more of an opportunity now more than ever. Use this as a hint to take more precautions, have a backup plan in the event one of your accounts somewhere is compromised. Have forms for replacement cards, be prepared to change your passwords, freeze cards, and maybe even delete accounts if an attack is severe enough.

Hopefully everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and stays safe this holiday season!
