Pero se refiere a la uña. Nosotros tenemos acá la uña y por lo general hay suciedad acá. Es algo extraño. Hay suciedad en la uña

Pero ese es el dicho. No, no lo inventé yo. Pero ustedes van a escuchar “ah ellos son uña y mugre. Siempre están juntos. Salen a fiestas, van al parque juntos a cualquier lado. Están juntos, son uña y mugre.”

Prestemos atención a un ejemplo de nuestra amiga Poly desde Chile
Poli:
El tema de uña y mugre, uña y carne. Normalmente como uña y mugre es cuando tú dices estas personas son muy amigas. Yo tengo un par de amigas de la enseñanza media que siempre están juntas desde hace mucho tiempo se llevan muy bien, se visitan familias. Ellas son como uña y mugre, nunca se separan. Entonces siempre las molesto, les digo, pues se llama Angélica Rosa, ustedes son desde el colegio son uña y mugre, es decir siempre están juntas, siempre se apoya. A veces eso es bueno en este aspecto, porque estamos hablando de personas de amistad

We have something a little similar in England. Well, not exactly similar with that description, but I'm joined to the hip. If there two guys always together.
Nancy:
Joined at the hip. Right. Like they are never apart. They're always together and joined at the hip. We say in the US at the hip.
Joffre:

Nancy:
Yes. So if you think of like I mean I believe it comes from the Siamese twins who are twins born still attached so they can't be apart. So they're like Siamese twins joined at the hip.

John:

Happy couples need not be ones who are joined at the hip. In fact, couples who have personal space tend to be happier in the relationship.
Joffre:
Ahora un ejemplo con nuestra amiga Marta desde México
Marta:
Si salgo a comer, que si voy por un café, que cualquier actividad que tenga que realizar necesariamente tiene que acompañarme esa persona, no? Normalmente son amigas normalmente que hasta si voy al baño, acompáñame al baño, que si voy por un café, un café, acompáñame al café. Entonces ahí es cuando también se usa demasiado. Míralas, parecen uña o son uña y mugre.
Joffre:
Lavarse las manos. Yo me lavo las manos todos los días. ¿Había escuchado Michelle lavarse las manos?

Like you're done with it. You're not. You're through with that. You're not going to deal with that anymore.
Joffre:
Escuchemos un ejemplo con nuestro amigo Nick de Estados Unidos.
Nick:
Our phrase is to wash your hands of something, so if you wash your hands of something that you previously responsible for, you intentionally stop being involved with it in any way or connected with it or a part of it in any way. You no longer want to be involved with it. So in my situation, I had a job for four months where I was selling professional paint jobs and after four months of selling professional paint jobs, I found out that the painters actually doing the work, we're going to be teenagers, that we hire from our local towns and train for one day to then call them professionals. After figuring out this information, I wanted to wash my hands of being involved with that company or that job. So I left that job and moved on. So basically I washed my hands of being involved in that situation because it was algo immoral or something immoral that I did not want to be involved with.
Joffre:
Escuchemos a nuestra amiga Poli desde Chile.
Poli:
Este es el ejemplo muy típico de cuando tú no quieres hacerte responsable de algún problema. Entonces yo puedo decir mi jefe se lavó las manos con un problema de mis días pendientes de vacaciones. Eso quiere decir que mi jefe se lava las manos. Es que él no se hizo cargo del problema y me pidió que lo revisara con recursos humanos. Esa es una expresión muy normal aquí en Chile.
Joffre:
¿Lo recuerdas? Las expresiones de hoy fueron ser uña y mugre. Cuando dos personas van a todos los lugares juntas, nunca se separan y su equivalente inglés “joined at the hip”. La segunda expresión de hoy fue lavarse las manos “to wash your hands of something”. Cuando dejas de estar involucrado en algo para no tener culpa en esto, o dejas de estar involucrado porque te das cuenta que algo está mal o simplemente no quieres hacer algo, te lavas las manos.
