In Part 1 of my "Moneymaking Hints, Tips and Ideas" series, I gave a general overview of what referrals are, how they work, and how you can utilize referral marketing to earn side money. I mentioned how, even if you've never referred a single app or site, you likely have 5 or more referral links that could earn you money.
One of the biggest blockers regarding referring is that people typically don't want to bother friends and family. The beauty of the internet is that you don't need to. There are a number of methods to share your referrals with people who are looking for them! Here are my tips for getting started to make money.
Determine what referral links you already have
You'll want to figure out what referral links you already have. If you bank with Chase, you have a refer-a-friend link, which you can find here. T-Mobile subscriber? Find your referral link here. These are just two examples. For every site you shop at, every app you use, etc., you potentially have a referral link that can be found by searching the site/app for "refer-a-friend", "referrals", etc. You can also use google and search "[site/app] referral" (example: Swagbucks referral). For every referral you have, I highly recommend you track these links in a central location, whether it's a Word document, Excel sheet, Notepad, an email to yourself, etc. I also encourage you to include the signup and referral bonus amounts and any terms to earn the bonuses (such as a minimum spend requirement, deposit requirement, etc.). Doing this will make it much easier to remember as you share your referrals.
Share Your Referral Links and Codes
Now, possibly more than ever, due to the pandemic, inflation, etc., people are doing what they can to save and make money. Perhaps you have a friend thinking about buying something at Home Depot. If you are a member of any cashback portal sites, such as Rakuten or Befrugal, you could send them your referral link. If they sign up through you and make their purchase using this cashback portal, they can get cash back on their purchase AND get a signup bonus ranging from $5-$30 or more. You'll also get that $5-$30+ bonus when they do this! As you can see, sharing your links with friends and family can literally pay.
As I mentioned before, you don't need to go this route of referring to friends and family. You may not want to burden them, or perhaps you feel like you're trying to sell them something, and maybe you'd rather not do this. The good news is that you don't have to share your referrals with your friends and family if you don't want to, and you can still earn great referral bonuses! The fact that you're reading this proves how powerful a tool the internet can be for sharing referrals. And once you've determined what links and codes you have, here are a couple of great places to share them:
Simply sign up for one or more of these free sites and enter your links and codes. One great benefit to these sites is that your referrals will show up for everyone who also uses these sites, and your links will also be included in Google and similar search results when people are looking for a referral link to a specific site.
Another perk to these sites is that you can be as active - or inactive - as you want. You can post your links and go on with your daily routine, never to return to the sites until you want to add a new referral or update one of your existing ones when the link or bonuses/terms have changed. Or, you can take a more active approach, exploring all these sites have to offer, including connecting with other referrers like myself!
Once you've added your links to these sites, the links you have - which have earned you nothing up to this point - may very well start earning you bonuses. Trust me when I say how exhilarating it is to wake up and/or go about your daily routine when you get an email letting you know that someone signed up for an app or site using one of your links, and you earned a bonus!
