Apollo Shutting Down

The iOS-only investment app, Apollo, is shutting down. Apollo went viral some months back with their "free stocks when you sign up and deposit" promotion.

The email doesn't give instructions, although I presume members need to sell their stocks and withdraw. It also doesn't list a closure date.

Groundfloor Requires $100 Investment to Earn Referral Bonuses

https://app.groundfloor.us/r/d2bf85 - code: d2bf85

Last week, I reported on GroundFloor's promotions. Their standard $50 bonus when you sign up and invest $100. Also, their limited time "$100 extra for every 5 successful referrals." When I signed up, I deposited $100 and earned the $50 bonus without investing it. I also referred 9 others. I found out from one of my signups who invested the $100 that they didn't receive their signup bonus. They reached out to Groundfloor, who informed my signup that both parties need to have invested $100 - not just deposited it - in order for the bonus to be awarded. Once I learned this, I invested the $100 I had deposited, and was assured my signup and I will be receiving the bonuses.

If you've signed up for Groundfloor and deposited the $100, but haven't invested it, yet, you will want to invest it right away... especially if you are referring Groundfloor to others.

Douugh is Done

As I reported in previous weeks, Douugh shut down today. They sent members the email below. Hopefully, if you were a customer and had funds in your account, you withdrew them. If not, Douugh will be mailing you a check to the address associated to your account.

Douugh was one of my favorite apps to promote because it offered $60 signup and referral bonuses when you made three transactions of any amount. Thankfully, there are other banks offering great bonuses, many of them with similar easy requirements. See my list of current banks, their bonuses and how to trigger them.

Finary Shutting Down in a Few Weeks

Members of the investment app, Finary, received an email today which notified them of their closure. In a few weeks, Finary will be closing the platform. They recommend that you use the Finary platform to liquidate your assets and transfer the cash to your connected bank account (typically takes 1-3 days to become available for withdrawal, once liquidated). Note that you'll need to withdraw to the bank you connected to Finary; if you change the bank, Finary's clearing house will flag it as fraudulent.

You can also use ACATS to request a transfer of your assets and brokerage cash to another investment platform. To do this, you'll need to reach out to Finary and provide the following info:

  • DTC: 3856

  • Clearing Firm: Alpaca Markets/Velox Clearing

  • MPID: VLOX

  • Alpaca account number: 1PS-[your account number] (this can be found on your account statements, within the "My Portfolio" section of Finary.

I didn't see an exact date in the email, only "within a few weeks". I recommend getting your funds out of Finary ASAP.

Final Days of Webull's $500 Bonus and Apple Promos!

https://a.webull.com/3xbl7iH11jCmzIlDT7

Webull upped the ante in order to gain more customers this month with a rare $500 extra bonus (in Apple shares) on top of the already generous referral bonuses. These promotions end 3/31/23, and include the following:

1) Get 6, 10, or 12 shares when you sign up, open a brokerage account and deposit a penny (guaranteed minimum value: $34).
2) Get a minimum of $80 - up to $9,000 - when you successfully refer your 1st and 3rd signups who open an account through you and deposit a penny.
3) Get a minimum of $30, up to $30,000 in fractional shares for every other referral.
4) Successfully refer 5 people and get another $500 in Apple Shares (in addition to the other bonuses listed above).

Final Days of MoneyLion's Increased Bonuses!

https://mlion.us/$55BONUS - code $55Bonus

If you haven't signed up for MoneyLion, yet, you only have a few more days to earn their increased $10 signup and referral bonuses. This bonus ends on 3/29, and it's expected that the bonuses will be lowered to their standard $5 offering. MoneyLion is a great opportunity because, to get the $10, you only need to open a checking account. There's no spend or deposit requirement, and you'll receive the $10 in 2-3 business days. You can also earn another $5 if you make a qualifying purchase of $10 or more, plus you can earn another $50 when you receive a $50 direct deposit within 60 days (this can be accomplished using the Found app if direct deposit from your employer is not available to you).

Vaguebook Posts, Grand Claims, Misleading Promoting and Outright Scams

Referral World is filled with great opportunities. There is also a fair amount of shenanigans that you need to watch out for.

  • Vaguebook Posts - you've likely seen these ones. A post with "I have a brand new way for you to earn $50!" with no other information. Sometimes, the authors of these posts do it to "create buzz". That is, attract attention to their post over another referrer's post that promotes the exact same app, only with the actual details. Other times, it's a way to trick people into messaging the author, where the author proceeds to try and scam the person. Many times, the "curiosity killed the cat" approach works as intended. To each their own, but I will always sign up through someone who actually provides info on the opportunity without making me ask for it.

  • Misleading Promoting - Some people will post about an opportunity but intentionally omit details that might make the opportunity less attractive. Or, they may go a step further and state requirements that only benefit the referrer and not the referee. One recent example of this is Easygetpaid, where the terms state that the company will be purchasing tickets for events in the customers' names. Another recent example is Broxel, where the company is very spotty about paying bonuses out... you might get your signup bonus in a week, a month, or even longer, if at all. While referrers know this information, they tend to NOT include these kinds of details when promoting the app because, well, you might not sign up if you knew.

  • Misleading Promoting - Sometimes, misleading promotion is unintentional, especially in cases where an app is brand new. I was guilty of this, myself, when Fintor first hit Referral World. Their bonuses and app experience were confusing, and I thought that investing in a property earned the new signup an additional $10 in real estate shares. It turned out that the extra $10 is a referrer-only bonus. Most referrers, once they are informed that they're promoting something incorrectly, will quickly correct the error in their promoting because they aren't intending to mislead or dupe people. That said, there are some referrers who don't care, or worse, intentionally mislead. For instance, Fintor takes a minimum of 3 days to redeem and withdraw earned bonuses and could take longer, depending on the bank. Yet some have been promoting Fintor, stating things like, "Signed up yesterday, and $600 already posted to my bank today." They know this isn't true, but you don't, and they're hoping statements like these persuade you to sign up through them.

  • Outright Scams - One of the reasons I tend not to jump on every "NEW NEW NEW" opportunity is because there are so many fly-by-nighters and outright scams. Just this week, a few scams went viral in Referral World, including Temubread (not to be confused with Temu, which is a legitimate app), CashoutFridays, and Casino361. Most scams are obvious, but often times, referrers will sign up and start blasting these apps to maximize their "early-bird" bonuses, not realizing they are, in fact, scams.

While there are all of these things, there are also far greater reputable apps and people who refer them. For a list of over 100 legitimate, current opportunities, check out this post. These opportunities are categorized, alphabetized, and include bonus amounts and info.
