Daniel 6:1-10

1It pleased Darius to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom, 2with

three administrators over them, one of whom was Daniel. The satraps were made

accountable to them so that the king might not suffer loss. 3Now Daniel so distinguished

himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the

king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. 4At this, the administrators and the

satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government

affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he

was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent. 5Finally these men said, “We will

never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do

with the law of his God.”

6So these administrators and satraps went as a group to the king and said: “May

King Darius live forever! 7The royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and

governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that

anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you,

Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lions’ den. 8Now, Your Majesty, issue the decree

and put it in writing so that it cannot be altered—in accordance with the law of the

Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.” 9So King Darius put the decree in

writing.

10Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his

upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got

down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

Reflection:

We all know the story of Daniel in Lion's den. And we are familiar with it, but this is

not just another story that we should know, I do believe that the attitude of Daniel is to mimic

with the Christians of today. We can see 2 things here;

1. Daniel Trustworthiness.

4At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges

against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They

could find no corruption in him because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor

negligent. 5Finally these men said, “We will never find any basis for charges against this

man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God.”

- The Satraps were plotting against Daniel because he was so distinguished and he had

exceptional qualities that even the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.

We can definitely see here that Daniel is a really trustworthy man and is very reliable

and is excellent with what he is doing.

2. Daniel’s Response.

10 Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his

upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got

down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

- We can see here that Daniel did not protest against the decree of the King, nor he

came running and burst into the palace and made the king alter his decision and use

his influence, or even say things against the king, but rather what Daniel did was he

went to his room and prayed, and his prayer life is not just a mere prayer life, but i can

see that Daniel is really taking his prayer life seriously, he does this 3 times a day, and

the verse continues “just as he had done before” for me these very words gave me an

the impression that for Daniel prayer is not something that he does every day because he

need to, but rather it is his lifestyle, and he enjoys it so much talking to God that he

does this 3 times a day.

I hope and pray that we be like Daniel, that when the World looks at us, we be

distinguished as sons and daughters of the Living God, that when they look at our lives

they will be able to say, that we are true followers of Jesus Christ and may we take our

prayer life seriously just like daniel that we will talk to God not just when we need

something, but rather we come to him in reverence as a son or a daughter always

excited to tell things to his/her father whether it may be good situation or bad situation.
