Reflection in Matthew 22:34-40

Matthew 22:34-40.

34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT

Jesus told the Pharisees in this passage that the greatest commandment is that we should “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment, and then the second one is that we should love our neighbors as ourselves. And we can also see here that it looks like Jesus Christ summarized the 10 commandments.

Why is this so important for Christians? because as Christians we have to put God first in our life, in everything we do, in every decision that we make, in each in every step of the way we should consider him, and this is what we sometimes forget, sometimes we think that with our own strength we can do things that even though without God we will succeed, and yes we see people not believing in God succeed but there success is nothing but a sinking sand, you might be successful in this life, 70 years of success 80 years but what about our eternity? Let’s look at It;

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

-          In our time in this earth, what matters is our love for God, that our souls should long for God, that our hearts should be filled with his Words, the Bible tells us that wherever our heart is there our treasures will be, and If we profess that we love God with all our heart and soul then he should be our treasure.

Love your neighbors as yourself.

-          The first question that we should ourselves is that do we love ourselves? How do you value yourself? How do look at yourself? I do believe that when Jesus said that we should love our neighbors as ourselves is that we should think that if we do not want to be hungry then do not let your neighbor be hungry, the way how we treasure ourselves should be the same way that we love and treasure our neighbors also.
