Create or Die: The Options Are Clear

Create or Die: The Options Are Clear

Apr 07, 2021

Creating is the next big thing

You can create anything. Digital products, physical goods, music, art, writing, anything. As long as you use your brain to make something new, you're in the clear. If you're relying on someone to sign your paychecks at the end of the week, I have bad news for you. The world's leaving you behind.

It's a bold statement, I know, but it's one I'm ready to stand behind.

Create or die

Okay, so it's not that dramatic, but I'm trying to make a point here.

If you aren't creating new content, the world doesn't care about you. This includes me and you, Tim Denning and Elon Musk and everyone else. The world is moving toward content creation as an economy. With the rise of NFTs and wider global adoption of cryptocurrencies, we've already seen overnight millionaires from meme art.

If that doesn't signal a global attitude change, I don't know what does.

I want to make it clear that the 40-hour week isn't going away any time soon.

At the same time I want to clarify that if you rely on working a 40-hour week for someone else you can drop any dreams of making it big short of hitting the lotto. You can consider that sort of thing the baseline for success in the world. A regular job will feed you, put a roof over your head, and if you're lucky allow you to retire before you die of natural causes.

Keeping a job for a long time means you're being a good cog in the system and still earning your boss more money than she pays you. You haven't started shit at the company or bothered anyone so you get to keep your "steady paycheck" until they get tired of you.

I can't count the number of times I've been stabbed in the back by a job that I gave everything to.

That's not living

This is what I mean when I say create or die.

You might as well just give up if your greatest aspiration is keeping a job for your entire life so you can retire at the government-approved age. Hoping your jackass boss gives you a raise that's more than inflation this year isn't living.

Busting ass so you can 10x the corporation's profit while yours stagnates isn't living either.

What's living, then?

  • Waking up in the morning and painting the sunrise.

  • Writing about a difficult life experience and helping a dozen readers before noon.

  • Earning a living from something you create and not a cut of your boss' earnings.

  • Not relying on the existence of a corporation for your continued existence.

  • Having brunch with a fellow creator and brainstorming.

  • Taking your spouse out to a nice dinner using the earnings you made from creating.

  • Making more money than you've ever dreamed possible.

Bottom line is, if you want to live your life, be a creator.
If you want to simply exist, work for someone else.
Create or die.

Thanks for reading. If you enjoyed this, I'd love to have some salad for dinner <3
