Closing in on Cuba

Jun 05, 2022

Just wanted to take a minute to say thank you to those who have supported me through Buy Me a Coffee. I really appreciate it and I hope you are enjoying following along through my blog at unfetteredfootsteps.com. I have been capturing a lot of great video as well, which is the basis for what will be a documentary series about this hike once I finish and am back home.

Since you are avid supporters, in addition to saying thanks, I wanted to give you a quick “insider” update. I’m currently in my tent with a faint, but mostly present cell signal about two full days outside of Cuba, NM. The CDT is closed due to fire risk for most of this section after Grants, but we managed to create a beautiful alternate route to go around the fire closures and get back on the CDT for 40+ miles before Cuba. I’m now back on the CDT!

Cuba to Chama is also closed due to fire danger, but I have a sinker plan to road walk around the closure. I should be in Chama and entering t he southern San Juans just before mid June. I think my timing is going to be great as snow continues to melt in what was a pretty low snow year.

This last stretch of trail was incredibly fun, moving, and beautiful. I will update my blog when I get to Cuba. I had s lot to say about this section and some of the wonderful people I met.

My body is doing well and my feet are healing up and toughening up. Pretty soon I’ll just be one big dirty callused hiking machine!

Thank you again for your support! The picture was my view of dusk settling in from my tent tonight.

Happy trails!
