The Tao of The Buck-Toothed Hedge Hopper

The Tao of The Buck-Toothed Hedge Hopper

Nov 14, 2020

Did you have a school nickname?

I ask because, during my childhood, I was landed with the rather unattractive sobriquet of Buck-Toothed Hedge Hopper.

In retrospect, it was a bit of a harsh nickname for an awkward red-haired loner.

Because of this, and frankly quite a few other reasons, I can’t really say I loved all my school days.

But what I did learn from them was this...

Sometimes, what makes you stand out can also turn out to be your super strength, your Unique Selling Point (USP) if you like.

For example:

✔️I turned my loner skills into observer skills – perfect for copywriting.

✔️My days spent being teased helped me to grow into a super survivor who doesn’t crumble at every setback.

✔️And my red hair turned out to be one of the things that attracted my husband to me, and I am most proud about now. (Okay, so I haven't quite figured out a role for the teeth yet.)

The other lesson I learned (and which is also super relevant today) is that what looks pretty on the outside doesn’t guarantee good content on the inside.

In other words, branding is not only about your visual appeal, or what you say you are going to do.

Branding permeates EVERYTHING you do.

It’s the service you provide, the added value you bring, and also the way you treat people regardless of who they are, how they appear or their status!

The third thing I learned was that there is a lesson in everything. Although of course, we might not realise it at the time.

So what about you?

  • What is it about you that makes you stand out?

  • What are your superpowers?

  • What do you do differently than the rest?

  • And can you be sure your services are targeted at the right people who will receive them with the delight and respect they deserve?

All these points are integral to running a successful business, especially if you are a personal brand or freelancer.

You won’t be surprised to learn that I cover all this and much more in my ridiculously affordable Udemy course for freelancers here. The online course that gives it to you like it is.

Until next time,

Love, Peace & Surprisingly Good Sobriquets.
