The Dales Way - The Plan

The Dales Way - The Plan

Apr 05, 2023

As some of you may know I have just been made redundant as of 4th April 2023 and on top of an already difficult 2023 this will be a challenge however everything happens for a reason and I will stay positive as always.

So randomly on a whim yesterday I’ve decided to not stew over the Bank Holiday and have randomly picked a new long distance hike to keep me busy and have a change of scenery. This is only my 2nd long distance hike, the first being the Coast to Coast last year, so really looking forward to this one, albeit a little apprehensive.

The Dales Way runs for 80 miles from Ilkley in West Yorkshire to Bowness-on-Windermere in Cumbria, following mostly riverside paths and passing through the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the gentle foothills of southern Lakeland to the shore of England's grandest lake.

I have spoken with a friend “The Yorkshire Trailblazer” who I met in the Coast to Coast and he’s up for the challenge too. So I’ve booked a train at 05:50 on Thursday 6th April and will meet him in Ilkley around 08:15. We are going to tackle this together and will be great to catch-up and company. As ever, I will play it by ear as to if we stick together for the whole walk depending on how we both find it as I’m in no rush, although the intention is to aim to stick together and complete this in 4 days with a solid 20 miles per day.

I will try and maintain a daily blog on here to keep you updated on my travels and would love to hear from you all too so please do leave a comment.

Don’t feel obliged, however if you do want to support me and buy me a beer for the journey then of course that would be much appreciated. I’ll be vlogging the journey too for YouTube and will give you a shout out to say thanks too.

Either way, please do leave a comment as would love the support as it’s a challenging time and it means a lot.

Peace and love 🫶🏼
