The great opportunity: an overview of what we will be moving towards and why

The great resignation, what!? Why so negative? Let’s change the narrative to something more upbeat… ‘The Great Opportunity’!”

I love this new take on things because it makes me feel inspired and hopeful for our future as a society — one that values people, above all else.

You may have seen the movie Moneyball. It’s about how the Oakland Athletics baseball team uses a sabermetrics system — the mathematical and statistical analysis of baseball records (thank-you, www.britannica.com) — rather than the more traditional evaluation methods of ballplayers, such as gut feeling or experience watching games.

It was an eye-opening movie for me to see how much power a National League of Baseball (NLB) CEO has, and what they can do if other businesses don’t ‘get with their program.’

The ending has such a great message about being open-minded enough to adapt and lead others into change.

Change is hard.

We have built complex systems and artificial intelligence, but yet we are still lost. The 7 billion people who try their best to contribute must feel a bit helpless with no system in place that actively seeks out potential employees, a value-based system that truly puts people first!

We are all working toward a better tomorrow, but is the system looking out for us?

Time for Artificial Intelligence

It’s time to make way for artificial intelligence (or insert an option here) to consider our values that truly put people first. Let’s move towards life balance and contributing our passions to life work — with leaders that genuinely care about our input and contribution.

  • Have more time to spend with your loved ones

  • Work at a pace that suits you, not the system

  • Take back the controls on your own life

  • Be proud of what you do for others (i.e. true service)

Lead with Empathy

Billy Beene, the Oakland Athletics’ first baseman and third-base coach, helped his team win three World Series titles in 10 seasons from 1972 to 1983.

His professional approach helped him change how others approached their teams, taking time away from individual success. Instead, he cared about each player’s contributions and needs alike, which became a model for other players who wanted more than just winning!

Suppose you’re a CEO who thinks they have this whole thing wrapped up, a wake-up call. The pandemic has given us time to unplug from ‘The Matrix’ and see what’s going on in our world; we need all the Generations of X, Y, and Z to help make change happen. Can we improve our way of life for the next generations?

  • We need to stop and reflect on what we’re doing

  • The world is changing around us

  • “Be the change you want to see in the world.” (Mahatma Gandhi)

  • Help make change happen

  • Can we improve your way of life for future generations?

The Great Opportunity

In this blog post, I’m sharing my opinion with you and have given some examples that have shown us direction. First, Billy Beene stood up and took the beating, but ended up showing us how things should work in a better way.

The Great Resignation has been a significant issue for employers, but it’s more than just them.

Can we not reframe it into The Great Opportunity instead?

Why?

The Great Opportunity encompasses customersemployees, and employers. We need to change workplace culture and company policies, match employees’ contributions with their values, and provide life balance.

And let’s not forget the customer. The customer is impacted, and we need to change. Companies that are out of touch with their customers and ignore them will eventually lose business because people can find what they need online.

So, overall, we have to change and move towards values — valuing our time, contribution, success, family, health, and leisure.

The Great Opportunity is a new age of togetherness and unity. The time when we can work as one team, with everyone valued equally.

It’s an opportunity for digital systems to integrate into our fabric; automation becomes more present every day because it allows us the freedom (gives back our time) that comes along with living in this wondrous futuristic world, where people are their true authentic selves while contributing positively — both personally & collectively — to a more functional society at large — a positive shift like never before, which lets me contribute just by being myself: What a Great Opportunity!

The Great Opportunity!
